Christmas Anxiety

12/22/2024

It's that time of the year again. Christmas time! A time for cheer and thanking God that we exist as we hang around our close family and eat some delicious food.

But this year is different for me. This will be the first year I'm not with my family. Instead, I'll be spending time with my boyfriend and his family, which is going to be interesting for the both of us.

We've been wanting to hang out together for about 7 months now, and now we finally have the chance. The only problem is that I'm driving out there, and while I have driven there before, it is NOT an easy drive.

I'm not the type to get car-sick, but the winding roads and constant turns on the edge of a mountain just makes me feel weak in every possible way. Last time I did this trip, I had to remind myself that for every second spent on the road that it was one second closer to being reunited with my lover.

Not to mention that last time wasn't around any holiday. This time I'll be battling every single family on the road as we all try to get with our families for Christmas, and I will be alone for most of the trip.

I'm sure everything will be fine, and I'm just being anxious, but this time of year always gets me this way...

Any updates on projects?

NOPE!

okay I can explain tho

I recently just passed my first semester of college, and with that has meant a lot of anxiety around testing, so long story short, I've not had the time nor motivation to work on TMC or any other projects.

I have started a new personal project to learn SQLite, which is a simple to-do task list as a replacement for OmniFocus 4.

I really like OmniFocus 4. The way it lets me organize tasks into projects, set up subtasks, and notify me when they're overdue was really useful for college, but I was on a free trial that expired after one month. Now if the subscription was cheap then I wouldn't have any problems with paying for it, but it's $15/Month or ~$90 for a lifetime license which I just cannot justify, no matter how useful it is.

So my little todo list app is being made as a replacement. I have a couple features I want to have implemented soon, but dev time is pretty flaky right now. Ignoring the trip, I don't know much about databases, which slows my work down by a lot.

Hopefully I can implement the following soon...

This is only a personal project though. Don't plan on this being publicly available at any point. I may open source it once it's in a good stage, but for now it's closed source as I figure out everything.

Hope you're having a very merry Christmas!

I hope you're doing alright. For some, Christmas is a lovely time surrounded by those you love, but for others it is a very lonely time spent without anyone else around them. If you know anyone who is alone this Christmas, invite them to hang out with you and your family. Show some hospitality and let them come over for dinner. Give them the warmth of being around a company of people this year.

Please take care of yourself and others. We are stronger as a community than as individuals, so bring everyone together this season, and lift each other up.

Take care! I'll see you next time!
